OpenAI and Amazon ink $38B cloud computing deal

OpenAI and Amazon Web Services (AWS) have made a seven-year deal worth $38 billion. This agreement allows OpenAI to use AWS's cloud infrastructure. Under the deal, OpenAI will tap into hundreds of thousands of Nvidia GPUs to train and run its AI models.
Key Points:
The partnership changes OpenAI’s cloud strategy. It moves away from relying only on Microsoft. AWS will gradually scale capacity through the end of 2026, with expansion into 2027.
OpenAI’s restructuring let it sign with AWS. The exclusivity with Microsoft ended under the new corporate structure.
Amazon’s stock jumped in response, reflecting market optimism about its cloud business gaining a major AI client.
The deal also makes AWS a strong player in providing infrastructure for frontier AI workloads, an area many thought Microsoft had controlled.
Why It Matters:
AI systems are extremely compute-hungry. This deal gives OpenAI more flexibility, infrastructure diversity, and independence in scaling.
The cloud industry faces new challenges. Microsoft, Google, Amazon, and Oracle will compete more fiercely for AI workloads.
The move shows how AI, cloud, and GPU supply chains are connected. Control of infrastructure is a key strategy.
For investors and the tech world, this shows that major AI companies are focusing more on infrastructure. They believe AI will be an important area for the long run.
Microsoft inks $9.7B deal with Australia’s IREN for AI cloud capacity

Microsoft has signed a five-year deal worth $9.7 billion with Australian AI firm IREN. This agreement allows Microsoft to access Nvidia GPUs and cloud capacity. The deal helps Microsoft meet growing AI demand and boosts its data centre capabilities.
Key Points:
The agreement lets Microsoft use Nvidia's GPU infrastructure via IREN’s platform.
Microsoft is making a 20% prepayment as part of the deal, which will be credited in later years (years 3–5).
IRAN also made a $5.8 billion deal with Dell Technologies for chips and hardware.
The GPU hardware will be deployed in phases. Some parts of the infrastructure will roll out at IREN’s Texas campus.
Why It Matters:
Cloud providers are turning to partners and third parties for AI infrastructure. They’re looking for ways to scale up instead of just using their own facilities.
More GPU capacity helps Microsoft manage larger AI tasks. This includes training models, running inferences, and overseeing agent operations.
In large deals, hardware supply chains—like chips, data centres, power, and cooling—are key strategic assets. They are more than just edge engineering issues.

LG founder’s grandson, production firm partner up to bring AI to filmmaking

LG’s new affiliate, Stock Farm Road, has teamed up with UtopAI. They’re launching an AI-powered platform to change the filmmaking process. The service helps creators, both indie and professional, speed up their production workflows using generative tools.
Key Points (Based on Available Reports):
The project aims to blend generative AI with filmmaking tools. This could help with scriptwriting, visual creation, video editing, and more.
LG and its partners see this as a new era in creative tools. AI helps content creators make high-quality films and media more easily.
Tech companies, like electronics firms, are moving towards creative software and media ecosystems.
